The marriage is there:
1877 MANNING JOHN GRACE JESSIE CANONGATE EDINBURGH CITY/MIDLOTHIAN

Isabella's death is there:
1876 GRACE ISABELLA LONIE LONIE F 67 CUPAR /FIFE
as is James's
1864 GRACE JAMES M U CUPAR /FIFE

and Jessie's death:
1897 MANNING JESSIE GRACE F 47 ST GEORGE EDINBURGH CITY/MIDLOTHIAN

They are all just waiting for you there at Scotlands People - all of the above were the dates you already knew. Any problems finding them, just let us know!

Best wishes
Lesley
Hi Lesley,

Thanks for that. I've got them! But still can't find birth/death John Manning; birth Jessie Grace; birth/marriage isabella lonie and birth James Grace.

There are lots of Lonies in Cupar around that time but I can't trace this Isabella - although there are other Isabellas in the area at the time. I know her mother/father were Janet Anderson and Thomas Lonie - but can't find any trace of them.

Exciting stuff this - isn't it! I feel like a detective!!

Thanks for your help.

Chris

Hi Chris
Good to hear you have made some progress!
Jessie died in 1897 in Edin
- and does it state she was a wife of John Manning or widow of John Manning at this time? This will give you some clues as to when John died, before or after 1897...

...and an extract from the IGI at http://www.familysearch.org/
ISABELLA LONIE
Parents:
Father: THOMAS LONIE

Marriages:
Spouse: JAMES GRACE
Marriage: 01 APR 1831 Canongate, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Lesley

Thanks - Aren't you clever!!!! I would never have thought to relate the widow/wife bit. It states 'widow' so he died before 1897. Also on the marriage certificate it states his place of residence as 'The Castle'. I've also found out that the 79th Highlanders were stationed there (Queens Own Highlanders) so I think I'll write to the castle direct and see if they have any records.

I'm now going to go on familysearch to see what's listed (Lonie/Grace) - if it's a search it could have been me as I've not been very good at keeping track of the places I've tried - but I'm learning!!!

thanks again

Chris
