Military

I am researching the Revoluntionary war(1776-1783) and looking for a listing of officers who were in Quebec/Ontario fighting on the Great Lakes under General Haldimand.
It looks like they were in the Royal Navy at the time but I am unble to locate a listing.
Any help would be great
thanks Dale

Hello Dale,

I take it that you’re talking about the officers involved in what’s mentioned here http://www.uppercanadahistory.ca/uel/uel8.html

“In order to ensure it remained in British hands, Governor Haldimand needed ships to maintain the string of posts along the Great Lakes and to feed and provide for the other needs of the rapidly increasing number of Loyalists falling back to the rivers and lakes.”

“Warships of the Great Lakes, 1754-1834", Robert Malcomson – 2001, has a reference to ‘A List of Officers, 6 July 1796: NAC’ which could be a bibliography reference to the National Archives of Canada. If that's the case maybe there are others. http://www.google.com.au/search?tbo=p&t ... kes&num=10

There’s also this reference although it could be to do with civilians.
Reel 113. B.222 – B.M.21882 Forms of Warrants, Commissions, etc.1776 – 1785. List of officers in various Departments, 1783 – 1784.

Probably not a lot of help,
Alan

Hi Allan - appreciate this - "Talking Scot" and its members have continued to help me in my research - very difficult to find out stuff pre 1800 - there was a fire in the Miramichi in 1825 and most of the local records were lost making in difficult to find out local happendings in north eastern New Brunswick during the later part of 1700 - however the investigation continues

thanks again

Dale [cheers]
