Chelsea Pensioners?
Research I have done has indicated that my great great grandfather was a Chelsea pensioner. He was born in and lived in Ayrshire and I have him listed as a soldier on a census. Does anyone have any information or links that might help me to find out more about him pplease? Or anything about Chelsea pensioners records?

Just thought of this as im rushing out to work, and as Chelsea Pensioners are a popular subject, one suggestion that may help you for now is............
Top right hand corner of this page (or any page) on TS you will see a white search box. If you put Chelsea Pensioner in there a lot will come up. You may find your answer as well as answers to questions you thought you may never ask !

Every soldier who survived to receive a pension, from some point in the 19th C, was/is a Chelsea Pensioner.
The venerable old gentlemen in their red coats whom one sees at various events are In-Pensioners, i.e., they live at The Royal Hospital Chelsea. (There was also an Irish equivalent at The Royal Hospital Kilmainham in Dublin.)
The great majority, however, were Out-Pensioners, living at home.
Somewhere on line I think that there are lists of In-Pensioners, but can't recall for the moment.

I think some Chelsea Pensioner records are amongst the military records available on Find My Past.
