seaforth highlanders
seeking my grandfathers records he was private william john wiggins service no 2816484 received the north west frontier medal 1930-1931 . Any idea on the best place to find his service history and does the serial no indicate the year he joined ???? thanks in advance
He was born in 1906 I am not sure what the legal age was then as to joining the army ??

The number you’ve quoted was just one of a batch issued to the Seaforth Highlanders in 1920 for renumbering and future use. Their batch was 2809001 to 2865000. More detail here: http://www.northeastmedals.co.uk/mm/arm ... umbers.htm
