Did the Gordon Highlanders have family days at Inverness ? I have two photo,s with lots of tents and my grandparents and other family members standing by one and you can see other soldiers and family wandering round.
I also have another photo that looks like it is of King George and the Queen mother on a visit possibly at Inverness. Their is a man playing the bagpipes and a lady dancing. Did they visit ever ?
Both these photos would have been taken in the early 1920,s.

I doubt it, as the Gordon Highlanders' home barracks were in Aberdeen.
That written it's not impossible that a GH battalion was based just outside Inverness at Fort George for some reason, but to hold a family day there sounds unlikely.
The regular regiments with their home in Inverness and Fort George were the Queen'sOwn Cameron Hignlanders (79th of Foot) and the Seaforth Highlanders (72nd of Foot - Duke of Albany's Own Highlanders & 78th of Foot, - The Highland Ross-shire Buffs), plus the yeomanry regiment The Lovat Scouts.

Hi,
King George VI and Queen Mary reinstated Holyrood as an official residence and did a major refurbishment. Maybe that's why he made Albert Earl of Inverness?
It wouldn't be too far fetched to assume the odd visit to Inverness but the have bag pipes and scottish dancing all round the world so I hope you have landmarks to identify where it was taken!
Sobil.

These are the photos i am on about concerning the questions. Its possible they were at Aberdeen but my grandfather was also at Fort George Inverness - in military prison mostly !
There is some kind of building in the background on one of them.

It should be possible for my mate to identify the regiment involved in the first photie, and even the medals worn by one sojer, - but what's the other sojer doing not wearing his sporran

The building in the background is like nothing that I've ever seen at Fort George, unless it was a temporary structure outside the limits of the actual fort........

I dont know why he doesnt have his sporran on but the girl on the left looks a bit suspicious
I think they were both at the time D Coy 2nd Gordons.
One was stationed at Aldershot and i think Bridge of Don so maybe that could be the building ?

Bridge of Don was the Gordons' barracks address, about half a mile to the south of the bridge over the Don, on the seaward side of the roadTracey wrote:That one is Uncle Davie and i dont know why he doesnt have his sporran on but the girl on the left looks a bit suspiciousI think they were both at the time D Coy 2nd Gordons.

Hi Tracey
I know nothing except www.bydand.com has a guest book you could log your enquiries in and maybe the association can help with the photos too... if you are sure they are Gordon Highlanders.
As for the kilt..... we do have quite a number paraded out here for the Caledonian Society but it's not the sporrans that are missing!
Sobil
