There is some kind of building in the background on one of them.

It should be possible for my mate to identify the regiment involved in the first photie, and even the medals worn by one sojer, - but what's the other sojer doing not wearing his sporran :?:

The building in the background is like nothing that I've ever seen at Fort George, unless it was a temporary structure outside the limits of the actual fort........

There are also the Cameron Barracks at Inverness itself but as a native of Inverness the building doesn't look part of the Barracks as they are now although it may have been demolished since the photo was taken of course. I can't help with local knowledge I'm afraid unless there are any inscriptons at the back of the photos hinting at a location as being in Inverness!

Hi AthollHighlander

All i know is my grandfather was in DCoy 2nd Gordons and as far as far as im aware spent all his time in Scotland at Fort George and in Stirling Military Prison. The other man in the photo - his brother in law was also in the 2nd Gordons but also stationed in Malplaquet and Guadeloup Barracks in Adlershot. This photo is taken c 1924 - 26 ish.

Many thanks

These men are definetly Gordon Highlanders. The medals that you can see are the 1914/15 Star, The British War Medal and The Victory Medal, The man without the sporran has the ribbons on his tunic for the same three medals, I'd say the man who was not wearing his sporran or medals was probaly resting in the tent and was pulled outside for the photo call!!

Hello Johntodd

Thanks for seeing this old post :) I looked up the medals but cant see one of them being issued past 1920 ? My grandfather (the one with the medals) was born November 1904 and am begining to wonder if he has somone else's jacket on
