Re: viewing Ancestry images
Hello Tracey,
no, I do not have a subscription. Ancestry is an alternative site for viewing FreeBMD births, marriages, and deaths. It is sometimes faster than FreeBMD and has different search parameters. If you go to http://www.ancestry.co.uk and search for anyone (try John Smith in any year), you will be invited to register free to view the results.
It is that free registration that I have used to view the results from my WW1 searches. You may need to log out of Ancestry UK and then go back in through the link above (and log in) to pick up the free viewing.
Regards,
John

THE PROBLEM MAY BE
Tracey, Sporran.
Please excuse the ignorance. Living in the U.S.A. I was not aware that we had two different entrances into Ancestry.com.A British one and a Yankie one.Bless my socks, you learn something new every day. That's probably the reason for the misunderstanding.I most certainly will keep that bit of info for the future.
As you said Sporran you have to use the link provided to get direct to the Registration Draft.

Re: THE PROBLEM MAY BE
Hmmmmm.... while there are different "collections", - geographical (UK, US, etc.,) & type of record, - as far as I'm aware, there aren't different sites/entrances according to where you live.drapadew wrote:Tracey, Sporran.

That written, after some interesting experiences when I was setting myself up for access to my email ISPs before a visit earlier this year, I do know that a server can tell the country or at least area from which you are accessing a site, as the NZ server involved wasn't happy with me and wouldn't grant me access as it could tell that I was coming in from Europe, and redirected me to the European server for the ISP concerned, which didn't help me at all, as what I was trying to do was to test out a script file for the required log-on in NZ ..............
