WW1 enlistment papers

Have been checking out the Canadian enlistment papers for some of my rellies and I wondered if the British/Scottish papers are available to view online?

Hi Fiona

You cant view them on line but if you look on www.nationalarchives.gov.uk you can look to see if the person you are seeking has his army records on there that you can send off for. If you havnt done this search before -click search the archives then go to the Catalogue enter name and what you are looking for should be found in either BT or WO (cant remember off hand) There will also be links on there where you can write to for the information you require.

The person I'm looking for is my grandfather, Anson William Mackay, he joined the Lovat Scouts

I dont know about the Lovat Scouts ? maybe someone else does. Can you tell me when and where he was born ?

He was born in parish of Tongue,Sutherland Scotland on 14th Oct 1894, I think it was/is a scottish regiment but I'm afraid to say I don't know where they were based.

The site is playing up at the moment - its telling me there are x amount of McKays (as i have no returns on Mackay yet) but not letting me view
