"Great war" obituaries index....

Post by JimM » Wed May 17, 2006 12:20 am

Excuse if this has already been mentioned..
Just noticed that the Mitchell library now has an "Evening Times" roll of honour index
The Evening Times printed short obituaries during the first world war... many accompanied by photos

To quote from the index "Often the only one that now exists of these long-gone heroes... some 5000 of the short obits have been indexed"

I have found one of my relations complete with photo
Well done to all involved in this (ongoing) project =D> (where is a salutey smiley when you need one?)

Hi Tracey
Sorry I should have said that the obits are not on-line

The newspapers have been filmed and are available to view in the Mitchell library search room.

Thanks for the link.... the index can be downloaded from there
