I have a real live ghost in Maryhill!!!

Post by Anne H » Sun Oct 04, 2009 10:24 pm

I'm so excited!

I was looking on RC late last night and came upon this link for Glasgow pubs...
http://www.oldglasgowpubs.co.uk/munns.html and lo and behold, I find a publican, Walter Munn...one of my branches from the Russell family.

Not only are there two photos of the pub but there is also a photo of the license holder, Walter Munn from 1944...I'm thrilled to bits!

...and the ghost of Mrs. Margaret Munn who seems upset about something???

I'm sure this will be my 1st cousin (4 x removed), Margaret Russell and I'm guessing that she's probably fretting over the fact that she's about to lose the pub (probably the last established the family had) yet again to modernization.

Any brave souls out there wanting to visit Munn's Pub in Maryhill and see if you can make contact with Margaret Munn...I've got loads of questions for her. I was so excited that I couldn't get to sleep last night thinking about all the questions I could ask her.

Regards,
Anne H

Drive by it every day on the way to work, and have even been known to frequent post match after wathcing thistle.

It is a real old man style pub , no sawdust on the floor but not far off of it

Plenty of spirits but no ghosts

aw, David...no ghosts?? That's disappointing.

If you're ever passing with your camera and feel like taking a photo of the inside, I'd love to see it.

Hello Anne,

I think this is the Pub in Google Street View.

Do ghosts wear red coats?

Just wondering if your Munns had any connection to Clydebank? My friend had a Grandfather & his four brothers all KIA in WW1-they all left for War from Scott St.Dalmuir(from their Aunt's house). As Maryhill is not a million miles away...
Karen would be thrilled if one of her ancestors had come back to haunt the place-will have to check it out with her.

Hi Alan,

That's a good close up, thanks...never thought of looking on Google.

As to whether or not ghosts wear red coats...if they do and it's Margaret Russell, she certainly managed to keep up to date with the changing styles through the years.

Added much later...
Oh dear :!: I just went back to have a look on Google and double clicked on the photo only to find the lady in the red coat is no longer there. Spooky or what :?:

Anne H

Hi Joette,

I haven't found any connection with the Munn's and Clydebank, but then again, I haven't fully researched that family, so you never know what I'll come up with in the future.

Who's the Karen you're referring to? Your friend who's connected to the Munn's or the Karen who now owns the pub?

Regards,
Anne H

Hi Anne

When my husband worked in the licensed trade in the Glasgow area your pub was always known as"Munn's Vaults". Seems appropriate what with the ghost and all :D

When I looked, she appeared and disappeared depending on where you were on the street ! weird in the context ;)
