STOKES men at sea and the Argyll & Bute militia

Post by SusanScot » Tue Jun 17, 2008 1:42 pm

My STOKES family were involved in the above.

Isaiah STOKES b. 1828, Dublin.
b. 1855 Ireland married Emma SPEAR (who was English) in Guernsey.
Son Patrick Frederick STOKES b. 1857 on board HMS Eveline, passage to Cape of Good Hope.
Daughter Elenor STOKES b.1867? in Campbeltown.
Son Alexander STOKES b. 1867? also in Campbeltown
1871 & 1881 at Campbeltown militia barracks, serjeant (sic)
Not found 1891 or 1901.
No death found in England or Scotland.
I can find no more information on Elenor or Alexander.
Patrick Frederick was possibly on the "Elen" in 1879.
In 1881 he is lodging in Barony, Lanark, an engine fitter.
No record after that, and no death found.
Patrick was my great-great=grandfather.

Any help with filling any gaps in the above would be gratefully received.

Many thanks for reading.
