Thanks again Ann, I knew the information was out there I think I saw someone searching it on WDYTYA are or another programme. I had been looking at the National Archives website with no success. William is actually my great grandmother's brother. I am curious as my father has written a note that William had some record at one time for the amount of times he had sailed around the world or something. Just wanted to put another one of these family legends to bed. I want to get to London but whether I can persuade my wife to spend half a day at the library I am not sure.

I am a descendent of David Chalmers and Sarah McCrackan. David was a Capt., Master Mariner and a Harbourmaster.
David was born on 5th March 1852 and married Sarah on 27th April 1871 at Drummore. They lived at 3 Stair St, Kirkmaiden.
I am the great-granddaughter of Annie Lydia Holburn Chalmers, daughter of David and Sarah.
If there are any relatives out there, would love to meet you.

Hi there.

Not sure how old this thread is but my research on my 3 x great grandfather has led me here. James Rae Fielding had fishing trawler in the Isle of Man and on the register it says he sold it to David Chalmers of Drummore. The ship was called the Jehu and I’m trying to find out what happened to it.

From the newspapers. The Jehu seems to have been used for cargo rather than fishing.

On Monday next, August 15 1881. --Smack Jehu, To be sold by public auction by Mr M Corran, on Monday, August 15, the Smack Jehu, about 60 tons, as she now lies ready for sea in Douglas harbour. Auction at 2 o’clock afternoon.
