Hi Andrew,

Just been thinking - you've already checked these out, haven't you?

If you already know the names or official numbers of any of the ships he sailed on, there are lots of places to look, just let me know and I'll post links.

Thanks again Ann, I knew the information was out there I think I saw someone searching it on WDYTYA are or another programme. I had been looking at the National Archives website with no success. William is actually my great grandmother's brother. I am curious as my father has written a note that William had some record at one time for the amount of times he had sailed around the world or something. Just wanted to put another one of these family legends to bed. I want to get to London but whether I can persuade my wife to spend half a day at the library I am not sure.

Hi
I am a descendent of David Chalmers and Sarah McCrackan. David was a Capt., Master Mariner and a Harbourmaster.
David was born on 5th March 1852 and married Sarah on 27th April 1871 at Drummore. They lived at 3 Stair St, Kirkmaiden.
I am the great-granddaughter of Annie Lydia Holburn Chalmers, daughter of David and Sarah.
If there are any relatives out there, would love to meet you.

Hi there.

Not sure how old this thread is but my research on my 3 x great grandfather has led me here. James Rae Fielding had fishing trawler in the Isle of Man and on the register it says he sold it to David Chalmers of Drummore. The ship was called the Jehu and I’m trying to find out what happened to it.

Hope that helps,

Hi, and a very warm welcome.

I suspect that you may already have found this information:
the website: https://sites.google.com/site/ukboatsgy ... ered-boats
has this entry for boats registered in Pell IoM
Status - Owner<> Agent - Built (launched or reg)
JEHU or JOHN PL //// H GRAVES>Mrs C GRAVES>D CHALMERS>J McRAE TRAWLER smack sail 5721 1845-1897 DOUGLAS ???
On a side note you've helped me, I visited a very old fisherman friend [in his 90's] yesterday and we had a brief chat about the boats he'd fished from. I was able to find them on that website too. So thank-you.
Wilma

Hello folks,

It looks like I'm 15 yrs too late to find this thread.
Is there anyone still looking for descendants of David Chalmers? He was my Great Grandfather.

Thanks
