Hi there,
Dundee city council's website has a really great photopolis with thousands of pictures of old Dundee, including pictures of the Mars training ship and some of the boys on it. I'm not sure if they have records of the boys, etc online but if you email the local history department they should be able to tell you where you can look, if it's possible. I have emailed them in the past and they were extrememly helpful and quick to reply. I would post a link but the website doesn't seem to be working just now (either that or my computer is about to breakdown!) - from memory the main site is www.dundeecity.gov.uk (I think) and the site is pretty easy to navigate so you should be able to find the local history department, etc once the site's up and running again. Tay Valley FHS also may have records of this. They have a website you can use but the records aren't available online either, as far as I know. If you email them they are usually willing to help with look ups, especially if you offer a donation, or you can join for a fee too. Maybe someone else can help further.
Good luck,
Cat

Hi Catriona,
Phew - glad about that
. I still think my mouse is about to break though but that should be fixed by changing the batteries
. Don't know what's wrong with a normal mouse - cordless ones are more hassle than they're worth!
Cheers,
Cat

Hi JoJohn
I don't know the definitive answer to this one, but here's what I found...
It looks like there might be some info at the National Archives
http://www.nra.nationalarchives.gov.uk/ ... SIR=O38783
& it looks like some documents are in St Andrews Univ.
It may also be worth contacting Dundee City Archives
www.dundeecity.gov.uk/archives
but link seems to be "dead" so try http://www.mundus.ac.uk/sites/56.htm
and the Dundee Central Library, Local Studies Department (link also dead)
http://www.dundeecity.gov.uk/centlib/loc_stud.htm
so try: http://www.mundus.ac.uk/sites/55.htm
as they clearly have some stuff relating to the Mars as illustrated here:
http://www.rls.org.uk/database/results. ... _term=mars
Hope this is of some help.
Best wishes
Lesley
