Welcome to TS
If you suspect that John Bleakley died at sea then a trip to The Mitchell Library will be the answer but be prepared for a long day. The have all the records for Death at sea each volume covers a year so about 20 volumes.
My Wife's grt grt grandfather was a stoker and I had the same sort of search and eventually found him in 1818 died at sea of natural causes.
It took my the best part of 4 hours but I was lucky with only 10 volumes before I found him.
It makes fascinating reading as it covers all ships around the world.
best of luck
Foiled again - only a genealogist could get the century wrong, I've done it many times.Alcluith wrote:Nelmit
You are of course correct only after 1880s and it does not contain deaths of all fishermen lost at sea especially inshore fishermen![]()
My mistake so used to prefixing dates with 18 instead of 19![]()
My James Burns died at sea 1918 of natural causes.
John
Incidentally James was born in Ireland and therefore it stated, in the death at sea register, that his death was registered in Ireland.
Despite considerable amount of calls, emails and cost I was unable to find any death registration anywhere apart from this document.
