In spite of the wealth of links to seafaring sites, I've been totally unsuccessful in my search for the steamship Garruna.
One of my second Great Granduncles Franklin WALKER, is noted as having died on this ship between Suez and Bombay in 1866..At the time, he was 29 years old and a wright by trade.
Was he employed as a ship's carpenter?
Had he decided to head for India, since 3 of his brothers had died in Australia in the month of August 9 years earlier and he felt that India would be a safer place? Or was he in his turn on the way to Australia?
Help with finding this ship would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Regards
Catriona

Hi Catriona, the only thought I had was to buy limited info. from Lloyds Register (if the ship was registered!) at a healthy 25 quid. http://www.lr.org/services_overview/shi ... ervice.htm
I have resorted to the Captains´Register at Guildhall Library with good results, but the fee was double what Lloyds take.

When one sees the number of ships that can be found online, it´s even more amazing the number that cannot be found yet - at least that is my experience. Yours could have been from the Mediterranean, judging by the name.
Good hunting,
Thrall
