Tryng to trace a mariner
Does anyone know anything about Murdoch McKenzie Ballantyne - master mariner. He was born c 1862 in Lanarkshire and ended his days in a seamans retirement home in Wirral on Merseyside.
Surname interest: McKenzie, Ballantyne in Lanarkshire. Wh(y)ite in Blantyre. McPherson. McNaught.

Birth of: Murdoch MaKenzie Ballantyne
Born: 02-Dec-1862 Anderston, Glasgow, Lanarkshire
Father: George Ballantyne
Mother: Catherine McKenzie
Armed with that information, his birth certificate should be easy for you to find on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk .

Thanks both. I had the first piece of info but not the second which may explain why I've found tracing him so hard! I was hoping to find out something about his seafaring days so that I could confirm I had the right Murdoch. Tried the Archives site but without a service number I still can't confirm anything.
