Merchant Seaman

Post by Jacquie » Sat Jan 06, 2007 5:09 am

Hi,
Sorry if this question has been asked before but I have a few greats reported as being a seaman (merchant service) in the Aberdeen area about 1860-1880. Would this be related to the Military and would there be records available, or would this be private and they just worked on a boat or ship? Sorry, my husband yells at me when I call a ship a boat or a boat a ship, I don't know the difference between them, he's tried to explain... I don't care. I'm not going on either.
Thanks for any help
Jacquie

Hi Jacquie:

Click on this thread which will point you to some info on the Merchant seaman:

I'm sure someone will be along soon to give you the benefit of their knowledge and experience on the Merchant Navy and/or Merchant Seaman.

In the meantime, I hope the above helps.
