Your a star and found another baby !!! but she must have died. John was a plain old shoemaker athough possibly a good showman in drunker moments.

Sorry to ask more but have you any idea what this means

Pension of 30/- per quarter from N.G. Artillery- This she stoutly denied until I practically had to tell her I knew it.
2 brothers in Paisley are going to try to bury.
This woman has not shown herself to be straightforward and states she was told to mislead us with info.

There was a list of payment details (including a little drunken episode)till.............
1.7.08 off roll married.
I take it this was Helen :D

Boy...............so much info

HUGE THANKS Annette

  Shoemaker never entered my head - I don't know why as I have many in my family.

I'm hoping someone else will be able to tell us about the N.G. Artillery as I'm afraid I haven't a clue (National Guard??)

I wrote the last line as it was written and I assumed it was Helen that had re-married. A quick check on SP gives 1 hit for a Helen Casey marriage and 1 for Helen Fox in 1908 in Lanarkshire.

Annette M

Hi Annette

Helen then married James Rankin 1908 in Calton Glasgow (under Casey), moved to Aberdeen where her first daughter Helen died aged 22, then moved to England. Helen died in England 1946 and James then emigrated to New Zealand (where a lot of his family were) married again and died there in 1971.

 Thanks Nina - I'm just one of the many people who help to make this a great site for Scottish genealogy.

I actually quite 'enjoy' reading them, when I get the time, and getting a glimpse of what real life was like. Some give you a real laugh and others a good greet.
I'm on holiday from work this week and was at Park Circus yesterday trying to break down a couple of my own ](*,) but had no luck. It was quite nice to then end the day on a positive note even if it was not for me.

Kind regards,
Annette M

Yes, but you are appreciated, be sure of that!

I never knew just how much detail a poor house record could hold until you did this for me, and others here. I just assumed that people applied there because they were poor and in need of aid...which is true. But the wealth of information that they bring! And also the surprises...or shocks in some of mine! hehe.

Well enough....I will let tracey get on with the thread.

That is a very bad sign, - you probably need urgent detox treatment  What's the maximum length of time that you can stay away from TS before withdrawal symptoms set in :?:

David

PS complete non sequitur but these are the first words I've typed since a comprehensive half hour long clean of my keyboard, and the keys are clicking again as they haven't for a while. If you do it properly and remove groups of keys be prepared for some gruesome sights
