If the funeral and burial was arranged by family it would have been somewhere either associated with the family or close to the last residence - by 1916 it would have been a local cemetery rather than a churchyard.
Unfortunately if the burial was arranged by the authorities it would have been the closest cemetery in what is described as "common ground" or the authorities had the power to "donate" the remains of the deceased for medical research.

Sighthill on the Springburn Road is the nearest cemetery.

was barnhill just a poorhouse or was it a hospital aswell,or did you have to be living in the poorhouse for it to be on your death cert .

Hi,
I believe it was a hospital as well as a poorhouse.
My g. grandfather died there in 1929. The address given on the Death Certificate for place of death, doesn't state whether it's a hospital or poorhouse though, only 657 Edgefauld Rd., his place of residence however is given as 119 Hydepark St., Glasgow. It was a Model Lodging House, obviously down on his luck! Cause of death was Cerebral Haemorrhage.
I noticed that the entry below my g.grandfathers one, was a lady who died in the same place within a day or two of him, she also had another address of residence recorded.
