Hello Heather
I will be going to the Mitchell again next week and I'll have a look for you if nobody else goes before then.
It might help if you can narrow it down a wee bit - his name would help a little
Jim
p.s. I'm also researching Menzies but none are yours

Hello Heather
I was a bit pushed for time but had a quick look today.
There is a record for an Andrew Queen who was married to Ann Townsley, he would have been born c1839.
Is this your man?
Jim

I had time to transcribe that one today Jim I knew it was Heather's man as I had followed previous posts. I think I am right in saying this was the only application for Andrew.
Date of application - 6.2.1885
Address 14 Greenside Lane Age - 46 from Belfast Religion - Prot.
Married, Labourer.
Son of John Queen, Farmer and Eliza Kane both dead.
Wife - Ann Townsley 43 Born Belfast
Parents - James Townsley and Agnes Shields both dead.
Married - Newtonards 20 years ago last May. No lines.
Children - Issac 20 B. Belfast, idle.
Agnes 8 B. Marlow St. Kinning Park
Previous addresses
Pollokshaws Road - 9months
Cavendish Street - 1 year 6 months
Marlow Street KP 6 years 6months
Applies for wife who is feverish.
Refused as able bodied.
I don't think there is one for 1904 but I think the above gives you lots of info.
Regards,
Annette M

Hi Everyone
Many thanks for all of your hard work you have gave a lot of information. Including a different wife for James Townsley as on his deat cert the wife is given as Eliza Cain. I think the same daughter registered both deathes so it looks as if there has been a mistake made as both here parents died before a year was out.
Thre was a son John which has not been mentioned in the application he was a year older than Isaac. His father died in Feb 1904 so any application would have been made in 1903 as he died in the poor house.
Maybe you can help me here as I do not know how long it would take for him to go to the poor house after the allication was made so I am thinking that it would be towards the end of the year.
Andrew Queen could have been born in 1839 as the dates I have are from the census but on his death cert he is supposed to be 69 and his wife 47 years old. All I can say is a great big thank you as I now have loads of info.

When I searched for Andrew's poorhouse application yesterday there was only one and that is the one I've transcribed from 1885.
When he died in Barnhill in 1904 what was he called on his death entry- was it Quin or Queen?
I ask because, no matter what you know about him now, whatever is written on that death entry (if it was registered by the governer of the poorhouse) is the information he gave when applying.
The search criteria when looking for a poorhouse application at The Mitchell Library is by surname (you can give forename but best not to).
The spelling has to be exact. You then scroll till you find their year and place of birth.
Would you like to post his death entry in the gallery so we have the full picture?
Regards,
Annette M
