I run a Charity,The Royal Caledonian Schools Trust and I am wondering if you could let you members know about our Archive.
The Caledonian Asylum as it was know had premises Hatton Garden from 1819 –1826, in what became the Caledonian Road from 1826 –1903 and in Bushey Hertfordshire from 1903 – 1996. In 1852 we received Royal Patronage and became the Royal Caledonian Schools We provided support for the children of Scottish Service personal past and present and the children of poor Scots.
Although helping Genealogists is a by-product of our main work as an Education Trust, helping similar Children and Young People we do have a remarkable archive with records going back to our foundation in 1815, we
have a virtually complete set of school files from 1820 to 1996, as well as some information about the petitions made on behalf of scholars from that early period who were not given a place. Many of our scholars were orphans placed in the early days by the Kirks and benevolent Scots and their organisations. We often get enquires and have been able to provide valuable information for those trying to trace their ancestors
Could let your members know that we might be able to help them.
If you would like more information please contact me.
Regards
John

Excuse my confusion
but are these records pertaining to Scottish service men,s children in England ? or would they for example be able to give me school records of a child that was in the Aberlour Orphanage c 1901 ? Im sure i have read this wrong but my concentration is not 100% as it sounds like the Blitz is happening all over again here
- not that i was around the first time

I very much doubt if they had any connection to Aberlour Orphanage unless there was a situation involving an orphan whose father was a serviceman, who was then looked after by The Caledonian Asylum.

Thank you David.
- no, the child concerned father was mad. But what a great archive. The Hatton Garden Garden, Kings Cross addresses threw me for a minute.

Re: The Caledonian Asylum.....
The Bi-centenary of our church building is coming up in 2015 and we are trying to contact previous ministers. I believe that rev. William More became head teacher at Caledonia early 1970s. Can you give me any information, please?

Hi Margo,
It looks like they have undergone changes - including their name, and the location of their archives.
