A wee deciphering job anyone?.....

Post by JimM » Mon Dec 05, 2005 5:00 pm

I have Mary Buchanan's poor relief application from 1865,
It looks like her sons William and James are earning 1/6 per week, but where? :?

I know that her other son John was born in Tobago street (so the first letters could be "T").
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Jim

Hi Jim,

I see the possibility of the first letter being "T", but have this one to offer (not a promise by any means). Parrs Tobacco Wks 1/6 /Wk.

All the best,

Andrew Paterson

The 1st letter does look the same as the "T" of Tobacco & Tobago. But pity there isn't a middle "d" to compare.
Was there any further down the page?

Todds Tobacco Wks?

Thanks everyone for looking
I had just starting seeing Todd's Tobacco when Jack posted.
Taking Jacks advice I looked at next page and Mary's husband is a Saddler ???
the double d looks identical to the mystery word.
I have uploaded the part from next page to show
