Hi MAggie
I'd give this a try I think:
http://www.archives.gla.ac.uk/gghb/collects/ac20.html

If the material they have is too late, they may know where the earlier material is held.

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Maggie,I can remember going with my mum when i was a small girl,to visit a friend of hers who had the misfortune to be there. It stood where the Paisley Maternity and Royal Alexandra Hospital have been built. The lady mum visited was great at needlework, knitting etc and seemed to be quite normal, and helped out the staff a lot.Every time friends thought she was ready to get out, they were told maybe next time. She got so fed up she started running away, back to her own house. They always knew where to find her.As far as i can remember she died in Riccartsbar. If i hear of anything that would help with your search,i'll get back in touch.Cheers Nancy

Hello Nancy
thanks for your reply the story of your mum's friend
that poor lady heaven only knows what she must have gone through somewhere last night i read memories of a man who used to work in & around an asylum and i couldn't quite get my head around the horror of the story that in the 1930's???he witnessed females hurling stones at one another in the gardens and the warders/carers turning a seemingly blind eye.it made for very sad reading .
thankyou once again
kind regards maggie

Hi Maggie

Riccartsbar Hospital was still open right up to 1969-70. I used to go there to call on some of my student nurses. It was a bleak, grey building which, by that time was falling to bits and nothing was done because it was to be pulled down anyway.
You may not get info on patients because hospitals are funny about giving up their secrets.
There might be an archive held by Argyll & Clyde Health Board which would give more information at Ross House
Hawkhead Road
Paisley
They are being reorganised just now so offices have been shifted about.
Hope you find your info
