Gartloch Asylum.....

Just found one ancestor spent some time at this facility. He gave it as an address on the birth cert of his daughter who was illegitimate. He married the mother the next year.
He was carter by trade but came from Kincardineshire. Was he there under contract or was he a patient. If he was a patient are there records still round?

There is a wee bit about the asylum here and the archives here.
The archive department is very helpful and if you write or email your query they will let you know if they have the records.

Thanks Catherine and nelmit, I looked at the previous thread and sent off an inquiry to the contact address. I haven't heard anything as yet but keeping my fingers crossed.
