The Ballad of Susie Lee

Post by momat » Fri Oct 14, 2011 10:50 pm

Just found this on another site and hope I am not contravening any regulations by posting but could not resist it.

The Ballad of Susie Lee

Susie Lee, she fell in love,
She planned to marry Joe,
She was so happy ‘bout it all;
She told her Pappa so.

Pappa told her, Susie lass
You’ll have to find another,
I’d just as soon your Ma don’t know,
But Joe is yo’ half-brother.”

So Susie forgot all about her Joe,
And planned to marry Will,
But, after telling Pappa this,
He said, There’s trouble still.

You can’t marry Will, my lass,
And please don’t tell your Mother,
‘Cause Will and Joe and several more
I know are your half-brother.

But Mamma knew and said “Honey Child,
Do what makes you happy,
Marry Will . . . or marry Joe,
You ain’t no kin to Pappy!”

Well !! I say .. .

Hi Momat
Sounds very like the caalypso song shame and scandal in the family :D
I hear it on the local community radio quite a bit.

I remember Lance Percival singing this in the 60s - very funny - especially the last verse.....!

Love it. Goodness, I'd forgotten all about Lance Percival - real blast from the past!
