Bob
You've given me a glimpse of something I would have no other way of learning about. Some of my own ancestors came from the townlands of Antrim and carved out a life in the surrounds of Glasgow. Each generation moving ever outward and onward eventually pushing all the way to America.
You may have written END at the conclusion of your piece but I suspect you'll never run out of stories to share.....at least I'm hoping that is the case.
Highest regards
Jean

You'd better not make any noises about finishing the stories otherwise they'll all gang up against you too! Keep em coming.

Hi Bob
I'm speechless and yes - in tears - for the bygone years or good old days as my mother refers to them. Perhaps not so good from the poverty aspect (the social was just in it's infancy in my youth and hand outs you did not get without passing the dreaded Means Test and even then they were meagre. Many a time my mother dreaded the visit from that man they called the Means Test Man. I recall one visit when he decided my mother should sell a kitchen chair as she didn't need all the ones she had. Can you believe it!! No, it was good for the community spirit we all had back then in the tenements and the fun we had, just as you described so magically, running through the closes and the middens looking for 'luckies' and playing all sorts of games.
A million thanks again for the memories Bob and I'm looking forward to your next story whatever the subject.
Cheers and take care

Well done Again Bob
Although I came from a different area I could have sworn at times I was back in Dalmuir and Faifley as a child. My mother could never understand either the memories I had from then and said I must have heard someone speak about it.
