I have now decided that since I can't get this OPR to upload, my fault entirely I am sure that the entry read
Hugh Gunn a little Tenent, fisher Kelper Loch-sus un between the s and u
there appears to be an e above the space and Barbara MacKintosh his wife had Donald Baptised 12th November
The OPR Births 048/0010 0092 12/11/1801 does this help in identifying the place.
His marriage says
Hugh Gun in Rispond late soldier in the North Fensibles and originally from
Oldshores in the Parish of Eddrachylish (Presumably Eddrachillis) married Barbara MacKintosh. Niel Baynes daughter 19th May 1785

Just south of Rispond, on the shore of sea-loch, Loch Eriboll, there is a small loch, Loch Sìan, which could well be the mystery place.

Click on the north-west section of this map. Where a large section has been coloured in purple, head eastwards, you will find Rispond by the seaward end of Loch Eriboll. Heading southwards from there, you should find L. Sìan.

All the best,

Thanks David that is great.
Do you think the word is Kelper not Helper?I know they collected Kelp in Sutherland but not sure of the time span
Than ks for the maps Andrew.
Are the old maps from NLS worth ordering? I think I would like to have that one
Don't know what I would do without either of you

Re: Tenant fisher helper
See http://www.nls.uk/info/copyingservices/ ... opies.html for their prices. You would need to contact them by e-mail to describe the part of the map that you require. Normally they provide a phtocopy of a part of a map. Take note of their minimum order costs, particularly for posting internationally. It should be possible for you to order a photocopy of the whole map if that is what you require - again check the price.wini wrote:Are the old maps from NLS worth ordering? I have a couple of photocopied maps or map sections from them. I accept that I have the advantage that I can be in their library within 20 minutes from home, and discuss with one of their staff exactly which part of the map I would like a copy of, and I can collect it from them.
All the best,
AndrewP
