Hi Andy

Pretty sure it's Pomarium, which appears to have been in the city of Perth. If you google it you'll find out as much as I know!

Best wishes

Thanks for uploading it :D

Pomarium? I have never heard of it.

"Pomarium was a Area and road in Perth, next to the Railway Station at the Railway Hotel end. The present day bus station has replaced it."

I know where this is. :D

I still don't get the "overseer" part for Helen's father.

I had a quick look for deaths of Helen Taylor, Ms Martin but I didnt get anywhere.

I'm not slacking from work. :P Honest

http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/conte ... ?r=551&994 gives "Person in charge of a factory or worksite" for overseer; I'd also suspect that it could be synonymous with grieve in this rural context, the same site giving "Farm overseer, head worker on a farm" for grieve.

Hi Andy

The best I can come up with is that Helen Martin was said to come from (what looks like) Balruthie in the parish of Muckart. My guess is that Balruthie was the name of an estate or farm and George Martin was "overseer there" ie at the estate.

Near to modern day Muckhart is an area called Balruddrie but that may be wishful thinking.

Best wishes

Hi
If we are talking about Muckart near Dollar.

Use www.old-maps.co.uk enter Dollar on the map search.
Using the 1866 map.
Move North East using the corner arrow until you get to Yetts of Muckart and go to the 4th from top Magnification then move east 4 clicks on the side arrow.
There you will find Balruddery and Balruddery Cottage.

A later map shows Balruddery as Home Farm which is often a title used for the main farm on a large estate.

Having now looked at the uptodate OS map 1/25,000 on www.Getamap.ordnancesurvey.co.uk

I find that Balruddery has been renamed Naemoor and Balruddery Cottage is now Balruddrie
