sorry to be a pain , if anyone did employ boys from the poorhouse and learn them a trade ,
would there be a record of that some where it the poorhouse records , ?
just need an opening as to where else i can get an actual date of birth ,
has anyone tried the hospital records for early 1900s , as as i know my Mother was in Hospital in Glasgow when she was young , wonder if they would have the parents details,
then its which hospital , just an idea

Poor law records usualy give an indication of date of birth or age, depends on who is applying and their age etc. You need to check the poor law records at the Mitchell Library in Glasgow.

I woudl think it very likely that unless there were exceptional circumstances that all hospital records will be subject to 100 year closure.

Best wishes

Hi Jan
I would be more likely to trust the age given at marriage as he would have given it himself. At the time of his death, someone else gave what they believed to be his age.

Best wishes

Lesley
i thought that all along , and couldnt convince myself it could be wrong as i cant see a 10 year old being put out to work , and a 13 year old even back then had to look younger than a 16 year old ,
it was my Aunt who gave the details , and i did think ? as i do recall seeing something a long time ago saying he was actually 89 when he died
which could be about right ,as maybe he had just had a Birthday ,
back to SP and doing 1870s now
