The best one I saw recently was "comedian". Surprisingly not one of mine although we do have a few in the family

How did you confirm this Hudggy - the short answer - as I am looking at someone who had a son in France and a daughter in Portugal and was a soldier about the right time ?

One of mine is a real mystery - his occupation was stated as a Tasker
and I've never been able to find out what exactly this was.
I've had all sorts of suggestions but these all depended on the occupation being slightly mistranscribed. I have a copy from the original OPR page and it's definately Tasker . . . . . ?
Anne.
P.S. He was maybe an odd-job man, a man of many tasks - a tasker!![/b]

According to dictionary a tasker was "A person employed to thresh corn".
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the link Tracey, I had a wee look.
I wouldn't have thought an 'English' occupation would have applied to him, but it's the only time I've actually seen it as an occupation.
I perhaps should have mentioned that he was (and all his family before him) were from in and around Central Lanarkshire. You've got me thinking now though, I'm wondering what the Scottish equivalent to a Tasker would be known as.

I dont know but i would have thought that some occupations like agriculture - the terms used to describe certain occupations would have crossed the divide
Scotland - Donaldson / Moggach / Shaw / Geddes / Sim / Gray / Mackie / Richards / Joel / Coull / Mckimmie / Panton / McGregor
Ireland and Scotland - Casey / McDade / Phillips / McCandle / Dinely / Comaskey + various spellings
