Cotton Menuer
This is an ancestry interpretation of an occupation in 1861 Any ideas as to what it is - family man from Ireland living in Glasgow. In 1871 he was a "borer in Boiler Works" In 1851 he was a Muslin weaver - could this be a cotton weaver?

Hi Trish,
Since your man is the only "cotton menuer" in all of Scotland in 1861
I would guess this is not some new occupation! The only close possibilities are cotton winder and cotton weaver. I would think, like you, that cotton weaver would be the most likely to be misread that way. You might want to have a look at the original some day when you have a few spare credits...
All the best,
Sarah

Re: Cotton Menuer
Thanks for that, Eric. I would say Trish can be reasonably confident now that "cotton weaver" is what was written.
