Mining in East Lothian.....
Doe's anyone have information on Mining in the Lothians in the mid 1800's, in particular, around Gladsmuir & Penston

I don't have anything specific to Lothian but this site may help

There are several other mining pages which might help. Google for them.
Try the Local authority pages. They often have local history pages on their sites.
Some of the pits in the Ormiston area were too small to have any records kept. One in the Pencaitland woods above Ormiston was operated by a single family into the late 1940's.
