In a Simular vein as Maggies?.....

Post by Keith_W_Brown » Fri Apr 21, 2006 5:50 am

Was there a trade guild for Calico Block Printers. My Great Grandfather and his father, his father, his father were mentioned in either Census info or occupation info on registar records as Calico Block Printers. The members of my family emigrated to USA in that trade to work in the silk mills in New Jersey.
Thanks for reading.
respectfully

Hi Keith
..and a warm welcome to Talking Scot :D

I'm not sure about the trade guild - would have to do a bit of digging about to find out, so may come back to you on this.

In which area of Scotland did your folks work, and at about what time?

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Keith,
a lot of people in the Jamestown area were in this trade.
You could try contacting Dumbarton Library for any details, but I think I read somewhere that any records were with Strathclyde University.
I'm sure someone on the board will have more details.
Cathy
