Hi Maggie,
I'd be thinking SPIRIT DEALER.
Cheers!
Jack
ps. see the Census link at the top of the TS page; select 1841 - this will explain abbreviations.

Hi Jack
thankyou :)
I'm back to working on the BRYCES that you helped me with so much (on the Bryce family possibly high chuch thread)
Using the bonus of ancestry 1841 index i was having a look for Eglinton street Gorbals but have come accross a strange one  I was looking for Thomas Bryce & Elizabeth ms young
i have found a Thomas Bryce
Thomas Bryce age 45 born abt 1796 occupation SP Deal, which thanks to your reply of spirit dealer could tie in with distillery manager which is the occupation given on Elizabeths DC for her husband Thomas' occupation.
But Elizabeth isn't with Thomas he is with a Hannah born 1796 England
and an Ann born 1826.
Then i have found who i am sure is my John Byce born abt 1821 a smiths ap in south Coburg street ,with a Mrs Bryce born 1796,Helen abt 1825,Martha abt 1821,and a Robert 1829.

I have found a John Bryce abt 1811 living at 54 Eglinton street which is the same number that Elizabeth died in but have no idea at the moment who he could be a relative?I think i will have to check out Martha,Helen & Robert
kind regards maggie
