Police Force .....
I have found one of my ancestors as a Police Constable within the police force in Glasgow (presuming it would have been Strathclyde Police?).
Is there anywhere I can access records to see what he got up to etc?

Hi there
Strathclyde Police as it is today is a fairly recent phenomenon. Try this site for further information.

Police Records
Police archives for the West of Scotland are held in the Mitchell Library, including personnel records from the 1820s to 1985 (although you can only view records older than 75 years).

Got a reply back today and it seems the Mitchell have a record of him:
John Jones, born Kilmallie c.1854, joined Glasgow force in 1878, age 24 (ref SR22/55/10 No.129)
I have asked the person about what the record would contain to see if it is worth paying £10 for it.
Thanks Lesley for pointing me in the right direction.

Just a quick update.
I managed to get the records and I was surprised at what detail they had. The only thing is I am confused with the No. of children colum it does not correllate with dates but is rather an ascending column (1,2,3....) The same goes for addresses they are just added in when they moved.
One of the streets I am unsure as to what it is. Curlie St? in Glasgow

Sorry to go a little off topic here but it wasn't worth starting a new thread. I'll keep it short. The Mitchell also contains records relating to the Fire Service. Has anyone had a look at these? If so do they know what information is contained and whether 1949 is covered?
Cheers
