A house factor looks after property for its owner(s). This can be looking after house repairs of houses rented out, or farm or estate cottages or the like. It could also involve collecting rent from the tenants for the landlord.

By the dictionary definition: an agent managing heritable estates for another (Scottish).

All the best,

I remember the 'Factor' coming every week for the rent. There were those who quietly disappeared the day he was due!

Factors are alive and well - you'll find the majority of tenement buildings in Glasgow will have a Factor who is responsible for ensuring the upkeep of the common areas [ stairs , close roof etc] whether the houses are rented or owner occupied.
