Ahhh Gotcha. :)

I do not understand what sic! has to do with George. I know that the name Fish doesnt seem to be common anyway in Scotland.

I put that because the transcriber has both George and William as "FS" , which I have seen meaning "Female Servant". Now, maybe it means "Farm Servant"? In which case I take back the [sic!]s

Hi Andy,
I just noticed that the possibly criminal young George was born before George & Helen were married. It puzzled me at first that George the elder would be living with his parents still in 1841, when he had a 2 year old son already...

According the IGI, George and Helen were married on 25 MAR 1842 in Airth

George was born 24 DEC 1838 in Airth

In the 1841 toddler George is with two women who I interpret as his mother and aunt(?) transcribed as "Mich" instead of "Mirk"

1841
Airth Shore, Airth, Stirling
Mary Mich, 25, born Stirlingshire, Labr
Helen Mich, 20, born Stirlingshire, Labr
George Fish, 2, born Stirlingshire

There is perhaps a story here in the Kirk Session minutes :D

Regards,
Sarah

Thanks again Sarah. Mary and Helen appear to be sisters as Mary is shown in the 1861 census as Sister In Law to George Fish.

I will wait and see what NAS say if they reply back to my e-mail regarding the records.

As for the Kirk Session records I take it they will all be held at NAS? I know the ones for Musselburgh/Inveresk are. I have never looked at them so I have no idea what to expect. I have been told about them in the past.

I get what you mean now about Sic. I think my brain is dying. Im not quite getting some simple stuff at the mo...

As for tracing the Fish family back I have found a few families floating around Airth at the turn of the 1800s but none are related to John Fish. His parents are supposed to be Thomas Fish and Ann Shepard. There are a couple George's and Thomas's.

Anne - Thanks again for having a look. :)
