Hi Dollard
There is a Stewart Scott (female) born 1891, Leith, on SP. Could that maybe be her?

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Dollard,

Stewart Scott's 1891 birth is there on ScotlandsPeople. Her twin brother is on the same page - two certificates for the price of one. That gives the parents' marriage date and place. From that, their marriage certificate is easily found. That gives their parents' names. The twins were born a few months after the census.

Although they were married a month before the 1881 census, he was at his parents' house on census night. She was with three of her sisters and a niece that night. The couple and three of their sons were together for the 1891 census. All of the above records are from Leith.

All the best,

AndrewP

LesleyB and AndrewP thank you very much. I searched for Stuart but didn't try Stewart. Sometimes I feel like such a ninny. Sometimes I wonder if I am getting too old to do this.

AndrewP I can't find Stewart at Leith in 1881 "She was with three of her sisters and a niece that night". What is the trick? Shocking difference between what Ancestry doesn't find and ScotlandsPeople does find.

Hi Dollard,

Stewart was not born until 1891. Stewart's mother with her relations are there in the 1881 census as follows: Barbara Stewart (29), Marion Scott (25), Robina J Stewart (18), Alexandrina Stewart (16), Millicent Tait (2).

All the best,

AndrewP

I think it's me who's the ninny for quoting Stewart's name wrong in the first place. When I did my search on SP I used St*rt.

Kind regards,

Thanks AndrewP I meant to say I can't find Mary Stewart (Scott) on the 1881 census not Stewart.

Can you still not find her? They are at 6 Morton St, Leith South
I wonder whose child Millicent Tait is?

Sarah

SarahND I should have been clearer. Yes, I found her. I was also wondering who Millicent could be. I may find out.
