BTW in 1891 the family are still at Raise Street only now they are known as Boyd. James Boyd is also a sailor at that time.

Can't find a marriage yet for James Boyd and Eliza.

Hope your credit card's healthy.

Regards,
Annette

Looks like I had that turned around. James Boyd must be Eliza Jane's second husband.

William and Grace's wedding is there to find on ScotlandsPeople to give you details on their parents. Look between the 1881 census and the birth of Hamilton for the marriage.

William's address on the marriage certificates indicates that he may have been beyond Scotland at the time of the census.

1882, got it thank you

Good! Now if you get the birth certificate for one of the Craig children born in Saltcoats, you should be able to see when and where Eliza Jane and John Craig were married.

I have found MC for James Boyd, Seaman and Eliza Wilson (widow) 1894, Blackfriars, Glasgow.
does this mean that Robert Boyd b abt 1883 may actually be Robert Craig? I haven't been able to find Roberts bc yet,
I have check out 2 that were born 1882/83 in Stevenson, but none of them were him. :(

Sandra

I have uploaded the MC, can someone decipher the parents names on it for me

Have you tried Saltcoats as? The family had a Robert 5 months old in 1881. There are 2 Robert Craigs born at Saltcoats 1880/1882.

:? But how will I know if Robert Craig is actually Robert Boyd or visa versa? that would mean I should be tracing the Craig family, yes!

Assuming Robert is your ancestor - if it was me I'd be tracing the Craigs.

When you start tracking down the Craigs give Larne, Antrim, a try
Searching for Keogh, Kelly, Fitzgerald, Riddell, Stewart, Wilson, McQuilkin, Lynch, Boyle, Cairney, Ross, King, McIlravey, McCurdy, Drennan and Woods (to name but a few).

Also looking for any information on Rathlin Island, County Antrim, Ireland.
