Hi David
Thank you so much for your informative reply.
Well after reading through your information last night. I have gone over my looked at David Wilson’s Death on SP. And guess what I had looked at number 1 on the page, the only one out of 17…..

1 1872 WILSON DAVID M 40 PARTICK GLASGOW CITY LANARK 646/03 0307

[b]Now this is obviously the David that you found in Patrick at Gartnaval Lunatic Asylum in the 1871 census.
It states him as being single age about 40. And as you also said no rellys at all. The writing is very poor so I can’t decipher the cause of death. I would send a copy but i am unable to do so at the moment my computer doesn't seem to behavinng at the moment. [-X

I had actually looked at this entry on the 31st August. But of course none of the information added up. And having found another member of my tree in Hartwood Assylum didn’t think it possible there could be two people from my family in this sad situation. I will add that a different side of family but they did come together eventually down the line. There’s not much hope for me at this rate.

So is it or isn’t it My David Wilson :?: :?:

Look forward to reading the next bit of information.

Have a good day.
Cheers Ali

Ali

It certainly fits.

It's probably going to depend on the poor relief record for Ann as to whether this can all be proven to fit together.

If this is the correct man then the cause of death tells us why he was no longer with his family, - "General Paralysis [of the Insane]" - the polite way of saying tertiary syphilis.

Poor Relief Records

Hi Ali & Davie,
Managed a glance at some of the Poor Relief records - and also found one for David WILSON himself (in 1869).

I could only look at the 1st of Ann SHAW's applications - the wrong book was brought up for the 2nd, and i didn't have time to wait till they'd finished their lunch till i got the right one.
But i'm going back up to The Mitchell tomorrow morning, and will take note of it then.

Your right Davie - David WILSON is correct man on the 1871 census at Gartnavel.
He was admitted with a nervious [sic] complaint on 9 Sep 1870, and died there 16 Jun 1872.
Parents (according to Poor law record) were David WILSON, soldier & Mary McLEAN.

Ann was at 7 Scotts Place, Motherwell when she applied in 1887 - living with daur Margaret, hubby William KIRK and 3 children.
Parents as John SHAW, weaver & Margaret WARDROP.

Will send them all on as soon as i can find some time!
Jack

Hi All

It's just great when everything comes together like this and one's strong suspicions as to a record fitting all the facts turns out to be the correct one.

Apart from anything else it justifies the existence of TS by demonstrating just what can be done.

Thanks to everyone :!: =D>
