Re John Urquhart
Hi Cathy,
There's also this John in Glasgow 1841.
The 1851 census that Andy found says shoemaker, but i notice he's a rivitter in 1881; just a change of occupation?

1841 cens 644-1 Ed 106 p 15 (St. Andrews)
Saltmarket St, Glasgow.
Alexander URQUHART, 55, shoemaker, b SCT
Helen URQUHART, 55, ---------- b SCT
John URQUHART, 12, shoemaker, b LKS
Isabella McKINNIS, 20, shoe binder, b LKS

Hi Andy, i'd a look at the 12yr old John URQUHART with parents William & Charlotte in Greenock 1841.
John was born outside RFW in 1841, as were his parents and sis Elisabeth 9yrs.
In 1851 the family are in Port Glasgow - no John with them, but parents & an elder brother Robert (a seaman) are born Dundee.
This doesn't of course mean that this John was born there too, but always the possibility he was.
His mother Charlotte, as a 77yr old, is still in Greenock 1881.

William and Charlotte Barron were married in Dundee in 1825, no recorded children in the IGI. A agree that their John was most probably born in Dundee too.
The Alexander and Helen look the best match by far.
I didn't make it up to the Watt yesterday so it'll be Saturday now.

Hi Andy and Jack,
many thanks to you both. I have seen the IGI entries.
And there are children of John and Isabella named Alexander and Helen. Though Isabella's father is also Alexander, and Helen is way down the line as 10th child,(out of 11 that I have found) but there is a gap in children between 1851-1855, so there may have been an earlier one.
