Annette,
Thank you so much for looking for this for me, it's really appreciated. I've just spent some more cash on SP and still can't find them on 1861 which is annoying cause I found them easily on the other census'. Maybe they went down south.
It'll be a bottle of the old namesake if I crack this one
Cheers,
Merlot

Hi All,
Continuing on from this census, I have uploaded (I hope) the 1871 census for this family.
http://talkingscot.com/gallery/displayi ... p?pos=-402
At the bottom is Mr/Mrs Finlay McMillan.
By my reckoning Finlay should be aged 70 and was born in Glenorchy.
His wife would be 60 born in Campbeltown.
The "Mr" part, looks like it has a wee "S" on the end but I can't be sure.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Merlot
At first I thought that she may be living with her daughter...
but that can't be the same Isabella if she was born in Edinburgh

k
Did you notice that Flora is also a widow by this time?

Jim
On the next page of this census is
Finlay aged 19 Drawer in pit (?), boarder and Andrew aged 22 shoemaker, boarder. It looks like Flora is living with her two youngest sons. I thought this was strange but maybe Isabella Stewart is her daughter. Thanks Jim for that. I'll check for a marriage for her.
I notice that Flora is a widow, however, I can't find a death for Finlay (now there's a surprise).
Thanks again Jim.

Hi All,
Yes they are living with the daughter Isabella. Found her marriage to Robert Stewart (and also 3 children on IGI). At their marriage Isabella & Robert were living at No. 1 Fleshmarket Close (quite famous or infamous) which is easy to get images of. This has been great but I still need to find them on the 1861 census and find Finlay McMillan's (father) death. Can anyone help
Thanks for reading,
Merlot

Hi,
I think we are searching for the same Finlay McMillan and was wondering if you are a descendant of George McMillan and Mary Gray or through an earlier branch.
George McMillan was my great uncle and my Grandfather his brother (Finlay).
Did you have any luck with your search?

Hi,
For anyone who has followed this thread or added to it.
After about 14 yrs of searching my family tree I have a contact

. The name Finlay McMillan has been the bane of my life for years, lol. I now have contact with the current Finlay McMillan and my mother is in contact with cousins she hasn't seen for about 60 yrs. We are all so excited about this as an auntie in Canada is coming to Scotland in September and my mother is delighted that she will see her again after all these years.
If it wasn't for Talking Scot none of this would have been possible.
Thank you so much.
