Don't forget you can access the 1881 Census for Scotland at a LDS Family History Centre near to you. They have it on Disc & although "their" idea of Scotland's Highlands/Lowlands varies from mine it has proved very useful in my search for Rellies.
Researching:SCOTT,Taylor,Young,VEITCH LINLEY,MIDLOTHIAN
WADDELL,ROSS,TORRANCE,GOVAN/DALMUIR/Clackmanannshire
CARR/LEITCH-Scotland,Ireland(County Donegal)
LINLEY/VEITCH-SASK.Canada
ALSO BROWN,MCKIMMIE,MCDOWALL,FRASER.
Greer/Grier,Jenkins/Jankins

I think they split it according to the best fit onto two CDs rather than any declaration that these counties were either Highland or Lowland Scotland.

All the best,

Fair point, but ..........

Had they called the CDs Scotland Disk #1 and Scotland Disk #2 (or Scotland - North and Scotland - South) instead of "Highland Counties" and "Lowland Counties" then they'd have made life a bit easier for those folk who don't realise that the Kingdom of Fife, for example, is not in the Highlands :!:

Unfortunately, there's a widespread mistaken belief in the US that anything north of a line drawn between Glasgow and Edinburgh is in the Highlands
