Hi folks,
So where is Thomas' wife? the details below are from an index.
Should be interesting to see if Thomas is as married, or a widower.
Please note spelling of surname....

ps, another 1851 index has Mary Ann as 17yrs...but both indexes have surname as Robertson.

Hi Folks,
There is an entry in the IGI for Thomas Robertson Marriage to Mary Brown DEC 1851 New Monkland Lanark Scotland which is an extracted entry. so perhaps Mary Brown 31 in the 1851 Census was his intended wife!
Cheers,
Fiona

That's interesting! Perhaps little Mary Ann is Thomas's daughter by an even earlier marriage and that his wife died in childbirth. This would make him a widower in 1851. I would think that the Mary Brown given on this census would be the mother of the as yet unborn Thomas - your gt grandfather - especially as Isabella, found in 1861 in Burnley, is here as well - though she should be about 48. The Dec marriage fits.
Be interesting to see the full entry for 1851!

Hi folks,
Mary's good work (plus pointing out the Lanarkshire connection) made them easy to find in 1851; and now all is clear?
Thomas ROBERTSON wasn't married, nor a widower - he was still SINGLE!
And his daur Mary Ann is William BROWN's Gr-daur.
Seems wee Mary Ann was born before parents Thomas & Mary BROWN decided to marry in December of 1851.
(the marriage Fiona found)

By the way, the ages of William 9 & Jane 6, might suggest they had a different mother to Esabella 40 & Mary 31?
provided that they are the elder William's children.
