Hi Mark,
Cadder is one of many parishes where only the female births are in the online version of the IGI. Your Walter Alexander may well be there in the Cadder OPR, and on the IGI (microfiche version and CD version at LDS centres). You will need to go to one of the many libraries or family history centres to see one of these more complete versions of the IGI.
The Old Parochial Registers should be available at the Mitchell Library in Glasgow, the Motherwell Heritage Centre, the SGS Library in Edinburgh and of course, in New Register House in Edinburgh. If you are unable to get to one of these locations, then the microfilm should be available for you to hire in and view at your nearest LDS Family History Centre.
All the best,
AndrewP

Hi Mark,
The online IGI allows you to do a parent search. On the search form, input the parents' names and the region (British Isles) shuld alow you to find all children born to these parents.
Unfortunately in this case only son Walter shows up, as an LDS submitted entry. If these parents' names are right, then any siblings do not appear on the online version of the IGI. Removing the mother's surname gives a list of names, but none in the right era.
The submitted IGI entry is no proof of Walter being in the other versions of the IGI. The information used by the submitter could have been from any number of other sources, such as a family bible, or even "word of mouth" information passed down the family. Your challenge is to establish it as a fact (or not) by finding some record somewhere.
All the best,

Hi Mark
Have you tried a counties search? The Hugh Wallis page allows you to select a county, key in a parish and look through a batch number which will give all the names gathered in that batch for that parish.
On the search screen when you select the batch number instead of putting in a surname in the box on the upper right hand side, leave it blank and you will be offered a page of about 200 names for births/baptisms ordered to some extent chronologically and alphabetically. Scroll through it then click on 'next' at the end of the list and you cn work through the entire batch. Very useful if there have been some odd ways of recording your names.
I used it this way for one family and found 26 variations in spelling the surname.
Here is the site URL http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com ... otland.htm
Its great for damp, dismal evenings when you have exhausted your fruitful searches and need something boring & repetitive.

Hi Mark
This only corroborates what Andrew and Jack and all have already found for you but I'm posting it just to show there is another source that sometimes can produce results that the IGI cannot....
This from the British Isles Vital Records Index...
ALEXANDER, Walter Christening
Gender: Male
Birth Date: 28 Dec 1820 Birthplace: , Cadder, Lanark, Scotland
Recorded in: Cadder, Lanarkshire, Scotland
Father: Walter ALEXANDER
Mother: Margaret MCDONALD
Source: FHL Film 1042966 Dates: 1743 - 1855
So this does tie in nicely with the IGI submittal. Unfortunately there were no other births on the cd set to these same parents.
Best wishes
Jean
