Well, I searched on the Scotlandspeople site and on Genuki and Googled Smailholm parish before querying these results and I found nothing to tell me that- I thought they would put "Smailholm (and Kelso)" and "Kelso(and Smailholm)" in the district choice if that was the case. I don't think they should give Smailholm as a separate choice if you're not going to get results just for Smailholm. Sorry you wasted your credit, Ian.

I totally agree with you. The reply from Alison at ScotlandsPeople, was both unsatisfactory and contradictory.
