Well, I searched on the Scotlandspeople site and on Genuki and Googled Smailholm parish before querying these results and I found nothing to tell me that- I thought they would put "Smailholm (and Kelso)" and "Kelso(and Smailholm)" in the district choice if that was the case. I don't think they should give Smailholm as a separate choice if you're not going to get results just for Smailholm. Sorry you wasted your credit, Ian. :(

Elizabeth,

I totally agree with you. The reply from Alison at ScotlandsPeople, was both unsatisfactory and contradictory.

Quote

You will see among the search results, that there are records also for
Smailholm. This was because due to boundary changes, when these were
indexed
Kelso & Smailholm were included for eiither search in order to give a
full
result because they were recorded under both at the time.

Unquote

1- Results came up for Smailholm (according to Alison, I never ventured to page 2 and 3) and seperate results for Kelso. Thus they were indexed seperately.

2. They were not recorded under both at the time as a search for a

Surname - Rob*s*n

First name-- Eu

(Euphemia Robertson appears in my first and only page of results),

only brings one result, according to Alison, she should appear twice.

Personally, I think the search criteria and the results should match, let us worry about boundary changes.
