Thanks, David and John. I'll away and think about it whether I'll write to SP or put up with the -UR indexing. I have until now put up with the FarGUhar indexing on early Birth and Marriage certs. Poor Elizabeth was even put down on her death cert as PARKER, so it's all part of the same problem.
I shall contact my extended family members looking for the same branch and tell them where to look and for what.

I have come across a lot of misspellings of various of my family names, but I have not worried about them as they were mishearing of thick Irish accents, or slight hardness of hearing on the part of the clerk, or educated?? guesses as to the spelling as many of my ancestors could not write and therefore would not be able to check for themselves.

Bad penmanship doesn't come into this category however, I think.

Cheers

Further to these discussions it prompted me to revisit my Farquhars and found him in 1841 - as FERQUHAR - like Ann I also thought I had covered all spellings but this was a new one ! Anyway he was with a previously unknown daughter - so I am delighted !
Off to do further search !
