Hi everyone,
Just to let you know I looked up the census entry for Esther that Annette suggested and not only did I discover Esther, but I also found her married daughter, Martha, (my 3x great gran) living with her who I've been trying to find for years on the 1871 census.
Marthas husband and kids were living back in Glasgow, but I knew she'd walked out on them, so I was trying to find her under her maiden name as well as her married name(Nicholson) with no success.
So thanks Annette for giving me two for the price of one!

Glad to have been able to help - that's what we're all here for.
Kind regards,
