Christie family

Post by John Bird » Fri Jul 27, 2007 4:10 am

Hi Raylen

I think your Christie family and that of my wife are related. My wife's gg grandmother was Margaret Christie who is sister of Samuel. There were 7 other siblings. I think Mary's surname may have been Sayers. Margaret's middle name was Sayers and information I have seems to confirm that was her mothers maiden name. Robert and Mary were married in November 1825 in London travelling to Melbourne Australia around 1852. Mary died on 20 April 1876 at Gardiner a suburb of Melbourne. There are 3 possibilities of Robert's date of death-1892, 1893 or 1899. I wam trying to work out which is the correct one. Margaret married Henry Hall on 3 July 1871 also at Gardiner.

I am happy to pass on what information I have on the Hall/Christie family.

regards

Hi Raylen :D

I have now confirmed, contrary to my earlier thoughts, that Mary Christie's maiden name was indeed Christie. She was born on 27 June 1805 in Parish of St Ninian Invernesshire. Her parents were Alexander Christie and Margaret Sawers. This is where her daughter Margaret Sawers derived her name.

regards

John

Hi John,

One correction to offer you, St Ninians is in Strirlingshire, not Inverness-shire. St Ninians was a large (mostly) rural parish almost surrounding the town parish of Stirling.

Although the IGI entry for Mary's birth is an LDS submission, the birth is there on ScotlandsPeople as an entry in the OPRs.

All the best,

AndrewP

Hi Andrew

Thanks for your response and the correction. I obtained a copy of Mary Christie's birth extract from ScotlandsPeople. Still trying to find the birth certificate :?: of Robert Christie. His death certificate will hopefully provide the names of his parents.
thank

John
