Glendinning & Corstorphine 1851 WLN

Post by Jack » Wed Feb 01, 2006 10:27 pm

Hi Jean,
Great names indeed, quite a change from my Browns & McDonalds!
Here's all that were in West Lothian; wee George Peter was as "0".
Seems anyone under a year has this - his age on the page will likely be so many months.
(so a look at the original film is still needed... which is always good practice anyway)

In Midlothian (excluding Edinburgh) 1851 there are,
36 GLENDINNING
21 CORSTORPHINE (one guess as to where most of them were born!)
Anyone in particular you're looking for?

Hi Jack

Don't recognise any of these, but will file away for future reference.

The Corstorphines I have who could appear in 1851 are:

John b 1799 in Corstorphine
George b 1803 in Currie
Thomas b 1808 in Crammond
William b 1815 in Corstorphine.

I know nothing about any of them except George whose wife's name was Margaret. The children I know of were Alexander b 1833, Jane b 1836 and John b 1841.

My Glendinning's are pretty well sorted, I just wondered if any more would crawl out of the woodwork. My gg grandfather Jasper Glendinning was one of the best names I have ever found!

Corstorphines in MLN 1851

Post by Jack » Thu Feb 02, 2006 2:04 pm

Hi Jean,
I know it's more fun finding rellies yourself, but just say if you'd like all the Midlothian born CORSTORPHINEs in MLN 1851.
(your George b1803 is there)
Of the 21 Corstorphines, only one was born outside the County - an u/m 40yr old Ann, b Kingsbarn, Fife.
Ta - Jack
ps. by the way, is that your GG-GF Jasper GLENDINNING (28, b Ratho) in MLN 1851 with wife Elizabeth & 4 chn?

Hello Jack

Your offer is too good to refuse. Waiting on SP for the 1841 and 1851 is frustrating. I cannot do anything with the "missing Corstorphines" until I find out who was still alive in those years. So that would be great.

Yes that is my gg grandfather Jasper, with 2 kids I didn't know about. :D I have Archibald b 1844 and John b 1846, Then I have Elizabeth b 1852 and George (my g grandfather) b 22 Dec 1854. Why he couldn't wait until January 1855 I don't know  I guess I get my impatience from him!!!

So many thanks for your efforts on my behalf.

Jean

Jean

I feel sure that I have a connection to your Glendinnings !
I have a Jasper Stevenson marrying Barbara Glendinning in 1782 in Kirkliston - they are my GGGG Grandparents . I would be interested in comparing notes

Hi Morag

We do have a connection. :D :D Barbara Glendinning and Jasper Stevenson(my gggg grandparents)had 9 children that I know of. One was Isobel Stevenson who married Archibald Glendinning in 1816. They had 6 children that I know of and one of them was my gg grandfather Jasper Glendinning.

That makes us fifth cousins!!!!

I'll contact you with a pm and we can go into further detail if you want to.

Hi Jack

You've found me a live relie

Also you wouldn't believe what I have found out now on the Corstorphine side because of the census details. Apart from the last 2 entries and possibly the 2nd one (although I am working on that one) the rest are all mine. The Archibald in the 3rd entry is my gggg grandather. What a pity he didn't last until 1855.

The most amazing thing is that he used the name Archibald when he married but his name is shown as Ballantine/Bannatine and various other spellings on the birth entries of his children. I've now found the proof that he is one and the same. I found daughter Catherine's d.c. and her father is shown as Ballintine Corstorphine.

I think having a gg grandfather called Jasper Glendinning and a gggg grandfather called Ballintine Corstorphine is pretty amazing :D :D

A thousand thanks

Jean

This is great to finally find someone researching the same family ! As Jean said , it does help to make the connection when they are called Jasper !
